Travis’s Profile
Born on August 6, 1983, in Tarzana, California, Travis Rettenmaier was introduced to tennis at the age of one, with his family being deeply involved in the sport. By the time he was five, he was already competing in tournaments, showcasing his early dedication and talent. His passion for tennis led him to enroll at UCLA at just 16 years old, making him one of the youngest Division I athletes at the time.
During his tenure at UCLA, he achieved significant success, including a national ranking as high as number one in both singles and doubles. However, his pursuit of professional tennis led him to leave college after his sophomore year to turn pro in 2002. Despite facing challenges, including elbow surgeries, he persevered and reached a career-high doubles ranking of 57 in 2010.
After retiring from professional tennis in 2012, Rettenmaier found a new passion in pickleball, a sport he was introduced to by a friend. Embracing this new challenge, he quickly made a name for himself, both as a player and as a co-owner of the MLP team Florida Smash, established in 2022. His team reached the finals of the inaugural MLP event at Dreamland in Dripping Springs, Texas.
As of May 2025, Rettenmaier has competed in 55 professional pickleball tournaments, participating in a total of 358 matches. His win-loss records are as follows: Men’s Doubles (141–131), Mixed Doubles (58–49), and Men’s Singles (59–48). Known by nicknames such as “The Rattlesnake” and “The Dirtbag,” Rettenmaier is recognized for his aggressive playing style and strategic prowess on the court.
He resides in St. Petersburg, Florida, with his daughter Rowyn, and continues to be an influential figure in the pickleball community.
