Lea Jansen grew up in Spokane, Washington, where she began playing tennis at the age of 8. Her competitive nature led her to become the top-ranked player in every age group in the Pacific Northwest. She played collegiate tennis at Washington State University, earning accolades such as conference player of the year and first-team NAIA All-American.
After completing her degree in accounting and an MBA in healthcare management, Jansen transitioned to professional pickleball in 2022, inspired by her childhood friend Tyson McGuffin. She started touring full-time in 2021, relocating to Austin, Texas, to train with other professional players. Under the guidance of coach Jim Costello and his Neuro-Fit Systems program, she has medaled in major tournaments across all three events.
Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 23, Jansen manages her condition by monitoring blood sugar levels and experimenting with sugar-free baking. Off the court, she enjoys spending time with her dogs and participating in outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, and snowshoeing. Known for her competitiveness and fiery on-court persona, Jansen is one of the most exciting up-and-coming prospects on the PPA Tour.
She has secured multiple PPA gold medals and is recognized for her aggressive baseline play and powerful forehand. Her success is attributed to her dedication, training regimen, and mental toughness, making her a formidable opponent in the pickleball community.
