Jessie’s Profile
Born on June 22, 1989, in Washington, D. C. , Jessie Irvine was raised in Cary, North Carolina.
She began dancing at a young age, participating in ballet, tap, and jazz, and even dreamed of performing in ‘Riverdance. ‘ At ten, she shifted her focus to tennis, training at the Evert and Rick Macci academies, and achieved a top-10 national ranking in junior tennis. However, a congenital joint condition led to chronic injuries, forcing her to step away from competitive tennis at 18.
Undeterred, Irvine pursued a degree in Sports Psychology at UCLA, where she also engaged in television work with the Tennis Channel, including roles on ‘Court Report’ and ‘One-Minute Clinic. ‘ After graduating, she moved to Florida to explore a career in real estate. In 2018, Irvine discovered pickleball through a friend’s invitation to play at a local park.
Intrigued by the sport’s dynamics and less demanding on her body, she quickly adapted her tennis skills to pickleball’s unique challenges. By 2019, she turned professional, rapidly gaining recognition for her powerful two-handed backhand and strategic court awareness. Irvine’s transition was marked by her adaptability, leveraging her tennis background to excel in pickleball’s fast-paced environment.
Her aggressive and tactical approach on the court, combined with her mental toughness, propelled her to the top of the professional ranks. She secured numerous victories in major tournaments, including a gold medal in Mixed Pro Doubles at the 2019 Tournament of Champions and a finalist position in Women’s Pro Doubles at the 2019 USA Pickleball National Championships. Her success continued with a silver medal in Women’s Doubles at the 2021 PPA Atlanta Open and consistent semifinal and final appearances at the 2022 US Open Pickleball Championships.
In 2023, she was a key player in Major League Pickleball, contributing significantly to her team’s success. Known for her aggressive and tactical play, Irvine’s key strengths include her two-handed backhand, quick reflexes, strategic shot placement, mental toughness, and strong net play. Her training regimen focuses on strength and conditioning, technical drills, and mental preparation, emphasizing visualization, mindfulness, and goal setting.
Off the court, she enjoys dancing, traveling, and exploring various cuisines, maintaining close ties with her family, and incorporating dance-inspired agility drills into her training to enhance footwork and balance.
