Jalina’s Profile
Born in Tucson, Arizona, in 2007, Jalina Ingram was adopted at the age of six by her relatives, Marion and Michael Ingram, after her birth mother was unable to care for her. Raised in Peoria, Arizona, she developed a passion for athletics early on, engaging in sports such as flag football, swimming, and gymnastics before gravitating towards tennis. Her dedication to tennis led her to the prestigious John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas, in the summer of 2022, where she trained alongside future pickleball stars like Chris Haworth and Thomas Wilson.
Despite her achievements, Jalina faced challenges at the academy, including bullying and security concerns, prompting her return to Peoria. In October 2023, after a tennis tournament, she realized her passion for the sport had waned, leading her to step away from tennis and seek new athletic pursuits. A few weeks later, encouraged by her father, she picked up a pickleball paddle for fun, rekindling her competitive spirit.
She began playing at local courts in Vistancia, Arizona, where the welcoming community and the sport’s dynamic nature captivated her. Her enthusiasm for pickleball grew rapidly, and she sought to improve by playing at the Surprise City courts, a hub for high-level open play. There, she met the Lam family, renowned in Arizona’s pickleball scene, who mentored her and facilitated her swift progression in the sport.
Under the guidance of coach David Furman, she honed her skills, and through connections made by Furman, she met Kale Klein, a player at Grand Canyon University, who introduced her to the broader professional pickleball community. This network of support and mentorship laid the foundation for her rapid rise in the sport.
