Born on August 28, 1988, in Bucharest, Romania, Andrei Daescu began his athletic journey in tennis at the age of six. His dedication led him to the University of Oklahoma, where he played college tennis on a scholarship and graduated in 2010. After college, he turned professional, achieving a career-high ATP doubles ranking of No.
126 and representing Romania in the Davis Cup. In 2015, he competed in the US Open, marking a significant milestone in his tennis career. However, a shoulder injury in 2015 necessitated surgery, leading him to retire from professional tennis.
In 2017, while residing in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Daescu discovered pickleball at the BallenIsles Country Club. His tennis background provided a strong foundation for his pickleball game, contributing to his powerful shots and ability to adapt to various partners. He began playing tournaments in 2018, quickly making a name for himself in the pickleball community.
Daescu’s rise in professional pickleball was marked by his appointment as the Director of the APP Academy in April 2023. In this role, he oversaw development clinics aimed at players of all ages and skill levels, reflecting his commitment to growing the sport. His playing style is characterized by a combination of consistency, offensive play, and a positive mindset.
He is known for his massive serves, fearless net play, and game-winning tactics, making him a respected and formidable opponent on the court. As of November 2025, Daescu continues to compete at a high level, playing for the Columbus Sliders in Major League Pickleball. He has accumulated six gold medals in men’s doubles and one in mixed doubles on the PPA Tour, with his most recent victory being a men’s doubles gold medal at the 2025 PPA Mesa Open.
His distinctive playing style and strategic approach to the game have solidified his reputation as one of the top players in the sport.
