Genie’s Profile

Eugenie Bouchard was born on February 25, 1994, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She began playing tennis at a young age, quickly rising through the ranks of Canadian tennis. Her breakthrough came in 2014 when she reached the final of the Wimbledon Championships, becoming the first Canadian to do so, though she was defeated by Petra Kvitová.

That same year, she achieved a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 5. Despite her success, Bouchard faced challenges with injuries and inconsistent performances in the subsequent years.

In 2024, she announced her retirement from professional tennis after competing in the National Bank Open in Montreal, marking the end of her tennis career. Shortly after, she transitioned to professional pickleball, aiming to apply her athleticism and competitive spirit to this rapidly growing sport. Bouchard’s entry into pickleball was met with enthusiasm, as she joined the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour, signing a three-year deal to contribute to the sport’s growth.

She faced a steep learning curve, acknowledging the differences between tennis and pickleball, especially in mastering shots like the dink. Despite early setbacks, Bouchard remained committed, achieving her first match win in April 2024 and concluding her first year on the PPA Tour with a 15-17 singles record, ranking 19th on the tour. Her playing style in pickleball reflects her tennis background, characterized by aggressive baseline play and a strong serve.

She continues to refine her skills, focusing on the strategic aspects of pickleball, such as positioning and shot selection. Off the court, Bouchard has embraced the pickleball community, participating in events like “Pickleball Slam 3,” where she teamed up with Andy Roddick against Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf. She also designed a signature pickleball paddle, showcasing her commitment to the sport.

Looking ahead, Bouchard aims to further develop her pickleball game, setting modest goals and striving to make a significant impact in the sport.
