DJ Young’s journey began in Burriana, Spain, where he was immersed in sports from a young age. At 13, he moved to Southern California, continuing his passion for tennis. At 18, he was introduced to pickleball by his father and Steve Dawson at the Bobby Riggs Tennis Club, sparking a new athletic pursuit.
Initially hesitant, he embraced the sport after his senior year of high school, participating in the SoCal Classic and realizing his potential in pickleball. This marked the beginning of his commitment to the sport. In 2021, DJ Young’s dedication culminated in winning the World Pickleball Championship, solidifying his status in the professional arena.
He joined the APP and MLP Tours for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, achieving titles in both. In 2024, he signed with the PPA for the 2024–2026 seasons, earning various medals and further establishing his presence in the sport. Throughout his career, he has trained with the professional pickleball community in Austin, Texas, refining his skills and contributing to his success.
As of December 2025, DJ Young resides in San Clemente, California, and competes on the PPA and MLP Tours. He is recognized for his wrist flexibility, strategic understanding of the game, and natural ability to generate power. Off the court, he enjoys spending time with his family, including his daughter, Leighton, born in March 2024.
DJ continues to balance his professional career with family life, embracing the challenges and joys of fatherhood.
